Agile Wallaby

A piece of the Australian outback in your backyard

Agile wallabies are athletic, gentle marsupials that can make rewarding companions for owners with the space and dedication to meet their needs. They thrive in outdoor environments and bond well with humans when raised from a young age.

01

Housing & Space

Wallabies need a large, securely fenced outdoor enclosure — at minimum 50×50 feet. Fencing must be at least 6 feet tall with an inward overhang to prevent jumping out. Provide shelter from rain and cold, a grassy area for grazing, and shade structures. They do not do well in small spaces.

02

Diet & Nutrition

The primary diet should be high-quality grass hay and fresh pasture. Supplement with wallaby or kangaroo pellets, leafy greens, and occasional fruits. Avoid high-starch foods, grains, and anything high in oxalates. Fresh water must always be available. Overfeeding leads to obesity and metabolic issues.

03

Handling & Socialization

Wallabies raised from joeys can become very tame and affectionate. They respond well to calm, consistent handling. Avoid sudden movements and loud noises — they startle easily. Daily gentle interaction builds trust over time. Adult wallabies that were not hand-raised may remain shy.

04

Health & Veterinary Care

Find a vet experienced with marsupials before acquiring a wallaby. Annual wellness exams, fecal parasite checks, and dental assessments are important. Wallabies are prone to lumpy jaw (actinomycosis), nutritional myopathy, and stress-related illness. Avoid handling during extreme heat.

05

Legal Considerations

Wallaby ownership is legal in many US states but requires permits in others. Some states prohibit them entirely. Exotic Kingdom provides all required documentation, health certificates, and state-specific permit guidance at the time of purchase.
